John Sadler will have two of the top contenders in this small field on Saturday in Flagstaff and St. Joe Bay. The eight-year-old St. Joe Bay will be making his first start in nearly a year since winning this exact race back on March 30, 2019.

This Kentucky Derby prep race will give horse racing fans a look at two of Bob Baffert’s best three-year-olds in Authentic and Thousand Words. Authentic earned a nice win at the Sham Stakes (G3) in January while Thousand Words has already won two graded stakes races in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) and Robert B. Lewis (G3).

Gift Box will be both the sentimental favorite and the likely betting favorite in the Santa Anita Handicap as he looks to become just the fifth horse ever to win the “Big ‘Cap” twice. The seven-year-old has gone 3-1-0 over his last four races at Santa Anita including a win in the San Antonio Stakes (G2) in December. That race also featured Midcourt, who figures to be among Gift Box’s toughest competition in this one.
