Five months after live standardbred racing was scheduled to start the 2020 season, Northville Downs resumed pari-mutuel racing at the track Aug. 14. The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) approved live harness racing Friday and Saturday nights through Oct. 10. Post time for the first race is 7:30 p.m. ET.
The racetrack is now welcoming fans back, but must limit capacity of the grandstand, bar and restaurant area to no more than 896 people. All patrons must wear face masks, with social distancing required. All spectators and employees entering the venue are also required to take symptom screenings and touchless infrared temperature checks.
“We’re requiring the track and the racing teams to limit personal interactions to what is required to run a live race meeting safely,” MGCB executive director Richard Kalm said in a statement.
Additional cleaning and sanitizing protocols are in place and include hand sanitation stations inside and outside to assist patrons during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
“This level of care also must be extended to fans who visit the track,” Kalm said.
TVG Network was granted a temporary license and launched its service in July. The venue at Northville Downs had been closed for on-site simulcast wagering due to COVID-19 restrictions.
